Other State Benefits
Disability living allowance – mobility component
You can claim this if you are under 65, and can only walk a short
distance without severe discomfort. You do not have to be confined
to a wheelchair.
It is payable at a lower rate if you can walk without discomfort,
but must always have someone with you.
Disability living allowance – care component
You can claim this if you are not yet 65, and if you need care and
attention from someone else. You need not show you are getting the
care.
Attendance allowance
You can apply if you are 65 or older, and need care and attention
from someone else. You need not show you are getting the care. It
is paid instead of Disability Living Allowance care component.
Constant Attendance Allowance
You should claim this benefit if you need care because of mesothelioma
and you have been awarded IIDB. The application form for this allowance
is automatically sent to anyone who is awarded 100% disablement.
You will need expert advice on which type of benefit will maximise
your income, and how getting one benefit might lose you entitlement
to another sort of benefit.
